Large forgings are mostly subjected to greater stress in the service environment, and require higher comprehensive mechanical properties of the workpiece. Generally, alloy steels with better hardenability are selected. Such as 40Cr, 50Mn, 35CrMo, 42CrMo, 40CrMnMo, 42CrMo4, 34CrNiMo6, 5CrNiMo, H13 (4Cr5MoSiV1) and so on. In order to fully exploit the potential of the material, large forgings generally require heat treatment. However, since large forgings are directly forged from steel ingots, the influence of smelting, ingot casting, and forging processes on the internal quality of forgings must be considered in the heat treatment process.
